Flute and Saxophone lessons, Beginner to Grade 6
Each student is individual and unique, so no matter your experience, age or ability, I can adapt my teaching style to best suit the needs of the student.
I passionately believe that you can start at any age, not only would I be happy to teach children but I will happily take on adult beginners who want to learn how to play, whether they are a complete beginner, or picking up their instrument for the first time in a while.
I have a good sized area at home based in Cannock, with music stands and sound equipment for accompaniment as well as any other resources we may need for our lessons.
I am also able to travel to you, if you would prefer lessons from your own home.
Experience
I have worked along side past musical teachers to aid the teaching of students. Supporting and running musical ensembles, also teaching individual instrumental lesson. Additionally I am a part of the Cannock Music Centre wind band, where I have helped and supported students with their instruments and ensemble skills, helping them develop from junior bands to more senior bands.

There is no need for any previous experience. I will happily teach students that are complete beginners. But equally if you do have previous experience, this is great too. The lessons will be directed to your ability, making sure you are happy and comfortable to continue, but most importantly excited to learn.
The main thing you will need is an instrument. In the lessons I will mostly being using my teaching resources, but as the lessons progress, music books will be needed to help progress and practice at home. If taking exams, the exam books will need to be purchased. All of these books and resources will be spoken about in the lessons and any information will be sent home to parents.
This all depends on your budget. I personally play on a Yamaha flute. These may be slightly higher in price, but have a wonderful tone and good intonation. I would recommend having a look on the gear4music website or if possible visit a local store where you can try out a few, and find which is best for you.
For smaller children i recommend buying a flute with a curved head joint, making it easier to hold and play.
Absolutely not. There is no obligation to take music exams when learning an instrument. Exams definitely aren't for everyone. If learning to play the flute or saxophone is just for fun or as a new hobby, then that is amazing. There is no pressure to take exams.
It depends what you are looking to achieve. For the most part this is down to you and your personal style. We will cover a wide range of styles in lessons, but we can focus on particular pieces and genres if your prefer.
However, if taking exams, there are a selection of pieces on a syllabus which we can have a look at and decide which pieces best suit you.
There are many way in which you can help your child with their music. The main way is to encourage them to practice at home, but making sure to keep it fun, positive and exciting experience. You can also help by purchasing the music needed for lessons, or any other music they might want to learn.
